A small mountain town built around the Arkansas River and the Collegiate Peaks — whitewater rafting in summer, hot springs in any season, and a walkable historic downtown.
About 2 hours west over Wilkerson Pass — a long but stunning drive. The Arkansas Riverwalk and South Main historic district are the walkable heart of town. Several outfitters run guided whitewater rafting day trips on the Brown’s Canyon stretch (May–August).
For a mellower day, Mount Princeton Hot Springs is 20 minutes south and worth the soak. Pack swim gear and a towel either way.
